ABOUT MARY'S

THE LEGACY

Of Mary Craft

Mary’s Kitchen has been a locals’ favorite at the beach for over 60 years. In 1951, Mary Craft opened Mary’s Confectionary on 17th Street just a block away.  In the early 70’s, Mary expanded and moved the business to our present location and renamed the restaurant Mary’s Country Kitchen. Mary Craft quickly became a legend around town for her hearty breakfasts and country cooking. Every morning at 4am, Mary made buttermilk biscuits from scratch before moving to the grill for the 6am opening, where she prepared eggs any style served with a big slab of country ham, crispy hash brown potatoes and one of her signature homemade buttermilk biscuits!

Mary’s lunch favorites, then and now, include tender slices of corned beef served with cabbage and potatoes, meatloaf smothered in gravy, and our big bowls of chicken with homemade dumplings. Guests always arrive before 11am to make sure their order is placed before their favorite lunch special is sold out!

We’re now just known as “Mary’s,” but we strive to carry on the traditions that Mary Craft started - making those biscuits from scratch, opening at 6am, serving breakfast all day every day and lunch at 11am. We have safely guarded all of Mary Craft’s recipes, which we still use today!

Mary’s Kitchen continues its legacy as a warm welcoming place to eat where you’ll feel right at home. On any given day, you’ll find the restaurant packed with an eclectic crowd of faces; young and old, regulars, locals, tourists, or maybe just someone passing through. Mary’s is proud to be in business for over 60 years consistently serving home cooked meals at reasonable prices with quick, friendly service.
